Why Facebook is so Important

July 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment

It’s all about ambient intimacy, and it’s a good thing in today’s busy world.

Ambient intimacy is about being able to keep in touch with people with a level of regularity and intimacy that you wouldn’t usually have access to, because time and space conspire to make it impossible.

It makes us feel closer to people we care for but in whose lives we’re not able to participate as closely as we’d like. Knowing these details creates intimacy. (It also saves a lot of time when you finally do get to catchup with these people in real life!) It’s not so much about meaning, it’s just about being in touch.

Watermelon Chill

June 23rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

1 whole watermelon (regular size…not the mini one)
1/2 cup lime juice
1/2 cup agave nectar
1/4 cup chopped mint

Put everything in the blender and make as a drink or freeze as sorbet. So flavorful and refreshing. This is like the watermelon chill from Naked Juice.

Can God create a rock so large He couldn’t lift it?

June 15th, 2009 · No Comments

The question:

Can God create a rock so large He couldn’t lift it?

My answer:

1. The question assumes the existence of God, when there is no data to prove or disprove that assumption. The analysis would have to stop here.
2. But I’ll go further, just for fun. The question does not define what a rock is or what type, density.
3. If a god did exist, there is no information available about what the extent of lifting strength is available. All written religious accounts are contradictory. “On the 7th day God rested” – why did he need to rest? Was maximum power achieved? The answer cannot be calculated.
4. Assuming there is a god and assuming by some accounts there infinite power by God, then the answer is yes, infinite power can lift infinite mass.

I will answer that the question is incompletely phrased with incomplete data.
